Shirley, what is it in particular that you enjoy about a cruise holiday?
It’s my favourite thing to do – I love the fact that your phone signal doesn’t work at certain times, I love that you are a million miles away from the stress of everyday life and I like that everything is contained in one space. You can be as active or lazy as you want. Cruise life is absolutely for me. I think when I get older, I will sell my house and live out my life cruising!
What was your first impression of Silversea Cruises’ ship, Silver Ray?
First class! Every crew member that I met could not have been more helpful and clearly love their work and are there to ensure that every passenger has a magical holiday on board. Embarkation was super organised and efficient and we were in our suites in no time and ready to start our holiday.
How was your suite?
We loved it! It was incredibly spacious and the attention to detail was outstanding. For example, our fridge was stocked with all our favourite tipples and replaced as needed. I also loved the small touches in the bathroom – particularly the high-end toiletry products which were exceptional. One evening we decided to try the in-suite dining from the extensive menu. It was served quickly, and was utterly delicious.
You hosted a Q&A on board – were there any interesting questions?
Loads of Strictly questions as you can imagine! People want the inside scoops on life behind the glitter… I couldn’t possibly comment! People love Strictly and I am so fortunate to be on the show – so am pleased to give them some insights on what life is like as part of the biggest show on TV. Also got some Dancing With The Stars questions from the America contingent on board.
Did Silversea Cruises deliver on your expectations?
Over delivered! Two things stood out – the feeling of space on board and the calmness. We never felt hemmed in and in fact, often felt we were the only passengers on board. In my life everything is rushed and on a tight schedule. This was the polar opposite and such a welcome change. There were then some stand outs for me – entertainment and service. The pianist who played was exceptional, and obviously, I loved the entertainment on board. It varied daily, and we went along every night to see a show. Then the service… as my colleague Craig would say…. FAB-U-LOUS! The crew could not do enough for us. Any special requests – not a problem – and all served with a smile.
Were there any ports you especially liked?
The Silversea crew couldn’t have been more helpful, giving advice and assistance on the best things to see and do in each port of call. We especially loved Valencia and Seville. As women we always felt safe, even when alone and navigating the small streets and towns. A highlight was cycling with a group. I haven’t been on a bike since I was 10 and loved it!
Would you sail on board Silversea Cruises again?
As I am known for sayin… ‘It’s never too early for a 10 from Shirley!’ and this was a 10/10 cruise experience all day long! So, my answer is… absolutely!
